What is haemodialysis, and what happens during a session?

Haemodialysis does some of the work your kidneys can no longer do — filtering waste and excess fluid from your blood. During a session you’re settled into a chair and connected to the dialysis machine through your vascular access, with the team monitoring you closely throughout. Sessions are scheduled regularly, and your dialysis team will talk you through exactly what to expect for your own treatment.

What are your opening hours?

Most of our units are open Monday to Saturday for two shifts each day, and some are also open on a Sunday. Shift times change through the year, so it’s best to call the unit to confirm the current shifts and times.

Most patients come to us through a referral from their doctor or nephrologist. If you’d like to begin treatment with us, call your nearest unit and the team will guide you through what’s needed.

Can I dialyse with you while I’m travelling or on holiday?

Yes — our units welcome visiting and holiday patients who need to continue treatment away from home. This is subject to availability and clinical approval, so please book in advance by contacting the unit directly and they’ll help you arrange a slot.

How should I prepare for my first session, and what should I bring?

Your dialysis team will give you clear guidance before your first session. It helps to bring your ID, medical aid details, referral information, and a list of your current medications, and to wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to your arm or PC. Your team will explain anything specific to your treatment.

Yes. Care coordination is part of what we do — the team stays in ongoing communication with your referring doctor, nephrologist, and other healthcare providers, so everyone involved in your care is kept informed.

We are Designated Service Providers for all well-known medical aids within South Africa. We will process your authorisation requests and claims directly with your medical aid.
